Child Safety Policy
Val's Little Haven is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care. This policy outlines our approach to child safety in accordance with the Children and Community Services Act 2004 (WA) and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
Our Commitment
- The safety, welfare, and wellbeing of children is our primary concern.
- All children have a right to feel safe and be safe.
- We have zero tolerance for child abuse or neglect of any kind.
- We respect the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disability.
Screening and Qualifications
All sitters engaged by Val's Little Haven must hold:
- A current Western Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- A current National Police Clearance (recommended)
- A current First Aid Certificate (recommended)
These credentials are verified before any sitter begins work and are monitored for expiry. No person may care for children through our service without a valid WWCC.
Safe Care Practices
- Children are supervised at all times appropriate to their age and development.
- Sitters follow all parent instructions regarding routines, dietary needs, allergies, and medical conditions.
- Physical discipline is never used.
- Photography of children is not permitted without explicit parent consent.
- Sitters will not transport children in vehicles unless specifically authorised by parents.
Incident Reporting
Any incident, injury, or concern that arises during a session is communicated to parents immediately. If a sitter has reasonable grounds to suspect a child is at risk of harm, they are obligated under WA law to report this to the Department of Communities.
